PTE vs IELTS in 2026: Which Should You Take?

PTE Academic is fully computer-based with AI scoring across listening, reading, speaking and writing. Results usually arrive within 48 hours. IELTS Academic offers both paper-based and computer-based versions, with human examiner scoring for speaking and writing. Results take 3 to 13 days depending on format.

PTE uses a 10 to 90 scale. IELTS uses a 0 to 9 band scale. Australian Home Affairs publishes conversion tables so both are accepted for the same visa categories.
