Why it matters
Stack of open books, referencing qualifications and evidence

Why a Skills Assessment Sits at the Front of Your PR File.

A positive skills assessment is the gate that opens most skilled migration visas, including the 189, 190 and 491. It confirms to the Department of Home Affairs that your qualifications and work history genuinely match your nominated ANZSCO occupation.

Each occupation is handled by a specific assessing authority such as ACS for IT, Engineers Australia for engineering, VETASSESS for many trades and general professions, or CPA Australia for accounting. Getting the authority right, and the evidence framed correctly, is what separates a smooth outcome from a rejected file.

How Sky Consultants Runs Your Assessment.

We start by mapping your qualifications and career history against the ANZSCO code that gives you the strongest chance of a positive outcome. From there we build the document set, review reference wording with your employers, and lodge with the assessing authority.

If the authority raises questions, we respond on your behalf with the evidence they need. Most files close with a positive assessment that you can carry straight into your Expression of Interest.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions.

What does a skills assessment service include?

ANZSCO occupation mapping, selection of the correct assessing authority, evidence audit across qualifications and employment, reference letter drafting to authority format, RPL report preparation where needed and end-to-end lodgement through to outcome.

How long does a skills assessment take?

Standard processing generally runs between eight and sixteen weeks depending on the authority and evidence quality. Priority processing is available for several authorities at additional cost.

Who is the service designed for?

Skilled workers preparing subclass 189, 190, 491, 186 or 482 applications, and international students planning their post-study PR pathway. Onshore and offshore applicants are both supported.

How much does a skills assessment cost?

Assessing authority fees range from around AUD 500 to over AUD 2,000 depending on the body and pathway. Our professional fees are quoted separately after your occupation and pathway are confirmed at consultation.

How long is a positive assessment valid?

Most positive skills assessments remain valid for three years from the date of issue for the purposes of a visa application, though some authorities set shorter periods. We confirm the exact validity in your outcome letter.

Do you provide MARA-registered support for the visa afterwards?

Yes. The same case manager who handles your assessment prepares your Expression of Interest and skilled visa application, so employment evidence is reused rather than reworked between the two files.
