The Permanent Step After a Regional Provisional Visa.
The Skilled Regional (subclass 887) visa is designed for people who have already spent time in regional Australia on a qualifying provisional visa. Meeting the residence and work conditions unlocks permanent residence for you and your family.
It is not open to new applicants who have not held one of the eligible earlier visas. Anyone starting fresh will usually apply for the 491 and then the 191 instead.

Who is eligible for the subclass 887?
Holders of an eligible earlier provisional regional visa such as the 489, 495, 496, 475 or 487, who have lived in a specified regional area for at least two years and worked full-time in that area for at least twelve months during the residence period.
How long does the 887 take to process?
Current global processing sits at approximately six to twelve months for most cases. Complete residence and work evidence at lodgement is the main driver of a faster outcome.
How much does the 887 cost?
The base visa charge is AUD 420 for the primary applicant. Additional applicant charges apply for a spouse and each dependent child. Health, biometric and translation costs are separate.
Can I include my family members?
Yes. A spouse and dependent children can be included at lodgement or as subsequent entrants. Family members granted the 887 receive permanent residence with the same rights on grant.
Is the 887 still open to new applicants?
The 887 remains open only to holders of the eligible earlier provisional visas listed above. Applicants who have not previously held one of these visas will typically apply for the 491 first, then transition through the subclass 191.
